“If you take your children to pediatrician, shouldn’t you also bring them to a pediatric Dentist ?”

You choose a pediatrician for a childs medical needs because this is a physician who is specifically trained in the medical care and the needs of a child. This distinction and choice to see a pediatric dentist is the same. Pediatric dentist are the pediatricians of dentistry.

Children are very precious. There is nothing more beautiful than their smile, but the beautiful smile does need your help. Good dental health pattern begins in infancy. Rather it begins the day a child is born and continues throughout life.

It is currently recommended that a child should pay visit to the dentist soon after the first tooth erupts – usually between the ages of 6 months and 1 year. That means you need to find a good pediatric dentist for your child and its never too early to start your search. First ask yourself – what are you looking for in a dentist? Clinical skill and a fine reputation are both desirable. But there’s another quality that may be over looked: find a dentist who likes working with children. An interesting fact is that more dentists are scared of children than the number of children scared of dentists. Though many general dentists like to treat children, a child may benefit from visiting a children’s dentist or a pediatric dentist.

Pediatric dentist is the specialist who is dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teenage years. The very young, preteens and teenagers all need different approaches in dealing with their behaviour, guiding their dental problems. The pediatric dentist is best qualified to meet these needs, and ensures excellent care for these patients. Children have unique dental needs. Think of the changes your child goes through during their development growth phases. No teeth to baby teeth, to losing teeth, to permanent teeth typically occurs in about the first 12 to 14 years. That is a lot of change and pediatric dentists are trained to provide the care necessary to ensure your child passes through these phases in life and enters adulthood with a strong, healthy mouth.

Why Choose a Pediatric Dentist
Post-Operative Care – Things to do after treatment

Since pediatric dentists focus on caring for children teeth, they keep themselves informed of the most recent advances in dental procedures for kids. That means patients can be assured they are receiving the best information from specialist. As important as the technical training, pediatric dentists spend much of their time learning that children have to be treated differently from adults. They evolve themselves to meet children on their level, but simply on a different plane. They realize that kids usually don’t look forward to their trips to the dentist (apart from getting out of school aspect!) and they work to make kids feel comfortable. The pediatric clinic itself is set up to see that only children and adolescent, from the ambience of the clinic, to the caring professional staff selected by the dentist, the entire practice is built around caring for the children. Even the instruments are taken special notice of , because it is usually 3/4  to ½  the size of the adult counter part. Since children have smaller bodies and mouths, the smaller instruments are necessary for working in smaller places. The smaller instruments are much more comfortable for the child / adolescent patient and the dentist – both are more comfortable. Also pediatric have a special vocabulary for their patients. They will talk to you and your child in easily understood terms with pictures and ideas, that your child will be motivated to take proper care of his or her mouth.

The best approach to dental care is to prevent problems from happening. An old proverb says, “Prevention is the name of the game” Prevention is everything. The key to prevention is understanding that your baby’s first tooth is at risk for decay. Even much expensive and lengthy procedures can be avoided by taking preventive steps when the child is as young as 4 to 5. but unfortunately, some children never see a dentist until there is emergency. The parents wait for a cavity to develop or a toothache to come along. Early intervention by a pediatric dentist may enable a child to experience optimal oral health & the life long benefits of a healthy mouth. Oral examination, dietary counseling, oral hygiene instructions and the use of fluorides and sealant are some of the services that enhance the opportunity for every child to be free of dental disease.

Pediatric dentist helps your kid to understand why the dentist needs to look at his teeth & make fun, not frightening. It is important that the child feels good about coming to the dentist because feelings formed at this age often lasts a life time. Remember the most valuable things a dentist has to sell are time, skill and a genuine interest in your child – not little bits of fillings of X – ray film.

Finally there may be no persuasive argument in favor of pediatric dentist than this: it stands to reason that anyone willing to invest the extra time and money in specialized pediatric dental training must really want to work with children.
